Erik has a theory: every time golf shows up in a movie, that character is the villain. Selfish, out of touch, or just plain evil. And he's got thirty examples to prove it.

His case starts with Sunset Boulevard. William Holden's character is broke and begging his agent for money. The agent? He's on the golf course, blows him off, and says, "What you need is a new agent, baby."

That's the pattern. Screenwriters use golf as shorthand to paint someone as selfish without ever saying it. So golf has a PR problem — in movies and TV, it's basically code for "bad guy."
